In Alberta, the government recognises nine statutory holidays. Boxing Day, December 26, is not recognised as a general holiday, nor is Easter Monday or Heritage Day. Alberta Family Day is celebrated in the province on the third Monday of February. The holiday is designed to give employees time to spend with their family and is scheduled to provide time off between New Year’s Day and Good Friday as they are approximately three months apart.
