In addition to federally recognised holidays, the province of New Brunswick also celebrates New Brunswick Day. The holiday is celebrated on the first Monday of August in order to honour the culture, achievement and history of the province. Government employees in New Brunswick must receive days off surrounding the Christmas holiday. The extra days given are based on which day of the week Christmas falls.
