Ontario celebrates nine statutory holidays including New Year’s Day, Good Friday and Christmas. If a holiday falls on a weekend, it could be celebrated on either the Friday before or the Monday after depending on the day of the weekend on which it falls. Six of the holidays are celebrated throughout Canada in most provinces.

Family Day is celebrated on the third Monday of February in Ontario and celebrates the importance of family as well as the need for family in communities. Boxing Day is celebrated on the day after Christmas. There are various terms for the name Boxing Day, but common belief is that it was the day when servants, errand boys and postmen received Christmas boxes with gifts.
