Yukon Public Holidays

The Department of Community Services determines holidays in Yukon, although most of them are also celebrated throughout Canada. In addition, the Employment Standards Act determine holiday pay for employees in the province. Yukon celebrates nine statutory holidays. Of those nine, seven are recognised by the Canadian government.

Discovery Day is celebrated on the third Monday of August in Yukon and commemorates the discovery of gold in the province. Activities are held throughout the province, especially at Watson Lake which is known as the gateway to Yukon recreation. Celebrations are also held in Whitehorse, Yukon’s capital as well as Dawson City, the heart of the Klondike Gold Rush. Easter Sunday and Boxing Days are not public holidays in Yukon.
